About Dr. Robert Rosenbaum

Robert Rosenbaum, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon and medical acupuncturist. He treats patients at The Metropolitan Neurosurgery Group in Silver Spring, Maryland. 

Dr. Rosenbaum graduated from Fort Union Military Academy in Fort Union, Virginia. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. He then went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.

After graduation, Dr. Rosenbaum completed a neurosurgery residency at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. He then went on to complete a second neurosurgery residency at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania. 

Most recently, Dr. Rosenbaum completed medical acupuncture training through Helm’s Institute. He has also completed multiple professional training courses through Joimax®, including Advanced Endoscopic Spinal Fusion Techniques, Cervical Endoscopy, and Lumbar Endoscopy.

Dr. Rosenbaum was an active member of the United States Navy for nearly 25 years. During his service, Dr. Rosenbaum was featured in two books, two editions of Stars and Stripes magazine, and was Surface Warfare qualified. He was also awarded medals and ribbons for Defense Meritorious Service, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation, Humanitarian service, and the Afghanistan campaign.

Further naval accomplishments include authorship of the Navy’s clinical practice guidelines on back and neck pain, development of one of the nation’s first safety timeouts and preoperative briefs, the introduction of endoscopic spinal surgery at the military’s flagship joint military medical center, and the championing of stem cell therapy for wounded soldiers.

Dr. Rosenbaum prides himself on providing patient-centered, safety-focused, multimodal health care. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and holds two patents, with multiple patents pending. He is also a strong advocate for complementary medicine and non-opioid pain management when appropriate.

His professional accomplishments include being a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a diplomate of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the former president of the Board of Directors for Warrior Canine Connection, and an avid member of the Board of Trustees of Parker University. 

Dr. Rosenbaum regularly lectures at institutions around the country on patient safety and holds the oath “Primum non nocere” which is Latin for “First, do no harm” as his first charge. His talks often focus on topics such as head injuries, post-operative pain management, the impact of steroids, and integrated care. 

In his free time, Dr. Rosenbaum enjoys giving back to his local community. He often volunteers at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. He also performs patient advocacy and provides medico-legal support for individuals in need.
